I’m Tom. I have a background in communication, strategy, branding, and design, working on both the agency side and the client side. Technology often plays an important role in my work.

In my professional life, Studio Dumbar/DEPT holds a special place. I took over the helm and ownership in the period after founder Gert Dumbar stepped away from the agency. With the team, we transformed the studio into an agency now regarded as one of the most influential design agencies in the world, working with clients such as OpenAI, Google, and Meta.

Over the years, I have developed strategic positioning for clients across industries, continents, and types of organisations, including Transavia, DeepL, Modyfi, the Dutch central government, PostNL, Feyenoord, and Mauritshuis.

Alongside my work as an independent Strategic Counsel, I remain connected to the studio as Strategy Director and Partner.

What drives me is an innate curiosity for what lies beneath the surface, focusing at the core. I want to understand how organisations really work: where their talents and challenges lie, what moves them, what defines them. Because for both people and organisations, true power originates from your core, not your biceps.
